University students and technical staff from LUANAR appreciated and gained skills on how to successfully inseminate an Indigenous Chicken (IC). The training which was conducted from 3rd -7th of February, 2014 was an exciting exercise for both the trainer and trainees. “I didn’t expect to enjoy to this level, the participants were so cooperative and interested to learn during the practical sessions” said the trainer Mr. Kiplangat Ngeno who is also a PhD candidate at Wageningen University.

The training aimed at equipping the trainees with the ability to stimulate and extract adequate amount of semen from cocks, correctly inseminate hens and differentiate fertile and infertile eggs after insemination using break out analysis. A total of 15 trainees successfully completed the training and were awarded certificates. In his closing remarks, Mr. Ngeno challenged the trainees to transfer the skills to at-least two people to demonstrate that they have gained the skills.
